Prison System: Rehabilitation or Mere Segregation

The Victorian Ombudsman recently reported that Victoria’s prison system is failing to make Victoria a safer place as about one in two prisoners return to jail within two years of release. From a cost perspective that equates to around a $1B annual cost to the Victorian community as the average cost for each prisoner is around $100,000.

NSW Report Confirms Violence Reduction in Entertainment Precincts

Across Australia the issue of alcohol-related violence within entertainment precincts has long been known and involved a number interventions including lockouts, patron ID scanning and situational crime control strategies. A recent report used various data sources between 2004 and 2013 to show a decrease in alcohol-related assaults.
