Welfare and Crime Stoppers Event

ASIS guests enjoyed a hot breakfast on a cold Melbourne morning to hear two leading professionals in public safety, Sergeant Wayne Gatt (Victoria Police) and Cathy Rhodes (Crime Stoppers).

First, Sgt Wayne Gatt – Secretary Victoria Police Association gave an insight into the impact policing can have on its members and how the association has turned to modern technology through the use of a free well-being app. The app ("Equipt") was developed by The Police Association and Victoria Police, with the input from members and leading health professionals to help with developing healthy and sustainable lifestyle practices, manage stressful situations and to get support when needed.

Cathy Rhodes – General Manger of Crime Stoppers Victoria provided guests an insight to the history of Crime Stoppers, recently celebrating 30 years of community safety and the vital work the organisation plays with assisting police to reduce crime and make Victoria a safer place. Since starting in 1987, Crime Stoppers Victoria has taken over 870,000 calls, helped make more than 20,000 arrested, collected information to lay more than 80,000 charges and assisted in the recovery of more than $212 million dollars’ worth of property, drugs and stolen property.

Crime Stoppers Victoria is a not for profit organisation that relies on the support of the community and the generosity of supporters to continue their vital work.

The morning finished off with one of the Chapter’s gold sponsors Virtus, demonstrating the ease security consultants can obtain a quote and save money for insurance coverage by using their quote and coverage portal. http://virtusib.com.au/
