Terrorism Planning in Melbourne – Disengaged Youth

The recent arrest of a 17 year old youth in Melbourne is further evidence of pending security risks facing our local society. Although full information is not forthcoming from the authorities at present it is reported the male youth was most active on social media about his religious beliefs.

The youth was also communicating with a 14 year old male from Sydney on social media. It is alleged the 17 year old Greenvale youth was undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Melbourne during a Mother’s Day Family Event on 10 May.

Security leaders need to remain focused, ensure their colleagues and clients are updated on local risks and trends, and review systems for emergency preparedness.
