Those attending the breakfast earlier this week will note that Judge Eugene Hyman (Ret.) amongst other things is credited with being the founder of domestic violence courts in the USA. In a media interview yesterday on ABC radio Judge Hyman calls for specialised courts to deal with domestic violence.

Statistics discussed during the media discussion included:

• Every week two women die from domestic violence
• Every three hours a woman is hospitalised
• Abuse figures over recent years show a growth rather than decline in domestic violence incidents
